House Hunters- Boston Condos

So Do not ask me why, but I was watching HGTV last night and a show called House Hunters came on. It featured a man searching for the perfect condo in Boston. Apparaently he had been searching for 2 years because he did not have a huge income and prices on Boston condos are not too friendly.  This show focused on showing him 3 units ranging from $409,000 to $527,000 all of which were under 1000 square feet. One had a country feel, one was a brand new condo conversion, and one looked as if it was gutted and needed about $100,000 of work to finish it. The previous owner just stopped working on it and put it on the market. It was interesting to see this guy go through the condos and see what he did not like. He refused to buy one of them because the toilet was too low to the ground or one closet was not big enough. He seems to like the new one the best but with the highest price tag it was out of his range. Since when did we have to spend half a million dollars to buy 700 square feet in Boston. I guess times have really changed. So anyway, this guy ended up buying the chepaest one that needed the most work at $409,000. The funniest part is that they fast forward 3 months and the place looks amazing and looks as if he spent over $100,000 on it. He talks about the choices he made and how he did it all himself. It is obvious that HGTZ helped out. He said he only spent $25,000 to $30,000 on fixing it up, but it sure seemed like a lot more to me.  Here is some more info on the show. I plan to check it out more often. They have a Chicago week coming up and we represent a lot of Chicago condos so I will for sure check that out.

Boston LoftsBoston, MA is a city rich with history and culture. As many growing housing markets are doing, Boston is no stranger to rehabilitating historic buildings to create new modern living space. Cities from San Francisco to Boston are seeing the value in these old buildings whether they were former apartments or industrial buildings. High ceilings, huge windows, and open floor plans are the just some of the attractive features offered in these industrial conversion projects. Many of the areas where we finds these new development opportunities are located in formerly industrial parts of these cities that are undergoing extreme redevelopment. Industrial and blighted areas are hot targets for developers with vision and a sense of civil responsibility. Not only are they taking run-down structures and creating new homes, but this revitalization brings new commercial and retail opportunities that provides the infrastructure necessary to support the growth.

The new American Brewery Lofts in Boston are a perfect example of where history meets modern architecture. These 79 new Boston condos and lofts will boast 23 foot vaulted brick ceilings and over-sized industrial windows.

Founded by James W Kenney, an Irish immigrant, the American Brewery Coimpany utilized a uniqued brewing process that used gravity as opposed to electricity. The opening of these new loft condominiums with great Irish history comes right after St. Patrick's Day! Great timing!
